About me

Doug Falk is a trumpeter/bassist, improviser, and composer. Falk’s musical aesthetic is unified despite its division into three distinct fields: composition, improvisation, and songwriting. Whether composing for various ensembles, improvising on trumpet or double bass, or singing/rapping, his goals are: to tell a story (often literally accompanying instrumental music with a program), to explore the nebulous boundaries between emotional harmonies, and/or to create musical slapstick. He completed at Bachelor’s degree with a composition honors project at Knox College. His honors project, titled Aesop’s Animals (2004), was a musical pageant with mixed octet and puppets telling a musical pluralistic narrative based on Aesop’s fables. Falk is currently a student of Karola Obermueller at the University of New Mexico.
